I havent been good about keeping up with all of you and the progress I have with my horses. I am a complete "green" trainer, never had horses, never broke one. They were only halter broke when we got them, barely. One of our horses is at a trainers for $600, to be retrained to ride and behave. So, my little brother and I thought we'd give training a whirl not really thinking we'd get much out of it. First off, we haltered them, stopping ang going, brushed them all over and worked with they're feet. Had them walking over tarps and such, under trees, doing alot of what you-guys all suggested. I had a huge ordeal with our older mare, she chased me out of the pen and I reacted wrong but remember I have never had ANY experience with horses. So, yesterday we were standing on a stump and putting our weight on either sides of they're bellies. My brother working with the older mare, me with the younger. She responded so great, I said hey why don't ya just lay on top of her back. Do that 10 times to where she's comfortable. After she did great with that, he finally sat on top of her back, got off 10 times until again, she was comfortable with the whole idea. Then, I held the lead rope while he was on her and we walked her. We both had huge smiles on our faces. We took small steps and pretty soon she was walking with no problems! We did that same process with the younger horse and she is doing the same. So today we mimicked reins with our lead ropes and were both on opposite ends of the pasture both riding and steering our horses. I know this is a long post but I'm so excited! We started with absolutely nothing, knowing nothing, and here we are riding our horses. Can't believe it!
