We had two horses that went to school together and the trip to school was hell. They met for the 1st time that day. One was trying to kick the other in the trailer and the other was terrified of the kicker. We had to separate them in the trailer, empty spot in between. They had basically no interaction with each other at school, other than passing each other a couple times and a barn. The terrified horse remained terrified.
On the trip home, the non kicker was put in the trailer 1st and then the kicker. No space between them this time. All was good. For the first week home, they stayed in the barn 24x7 in stalls next to each other. They were allowed out in the pasture a couple times and there were no issues. By the time they joined the other two horses they had bonded and pretty much stay together now.
If you can trailer them, as already suggested, and also put them in a barn together I think that would help. Maybe put them across from one another in a barn then next to each other. Force a relationship!
GOOD LUCK

Wow! Kelly rode Spirit and the little girl who we're feed leasing Calhoun from went for a ride this morning. Spirit who is usually very docile and gets along with every horse and Calhoun appear to dislike each other VERY much! The girls had to keep correcting them to keep them from going after each other. When we got back, we turned Calhoun loose in the big pasture. He went off and rolled and started munching hay, minding his own business. Kelly was putting Spirit away into his corral, leading him through the big pasture and when he looked over and saw Calhoun about 100 feet away, he tore away from Kelly at a run and full-on attacked Calhoun who fought back. They looked like stallions, rearing up, biting each others withers and thumping each other with their chests. I was carrying some clean riding pads out to the trailer and ran at them waving the pads and they finally broke apart and ran to opposite ends of the pasture. We were able to catch Spirit and put him in his corral. They are no worse for the wear but I have never seen such aggression between geldings and have never seen that side of Spirit for sure! I was hoping to eventually put the two of them together since they are both fat ponies but I don't know that that is going to work! They really acted like they had been stallions in the past. I wonder....... I wonder what it is that makes them dislike each other so much. This was more than just geldings being dominant. My guys worked out their heirarchy without such aggression. Hmmmmmm.......
