Cancer
  • I hate Cancer, too.  I didn't know if anyone wanted to post a rememberence to the people in their lives who lost a battle with cancer.

My dad when I was 2. He was a veteren, a carpenter, an artist and loved horses.
  • I just went to my cousin's funeral on Wednesday. He died of lung cancer. He was an excellent horseman, and an all-around good guy.

My father died of lung cancer in 2002. He was almost 95 years old and lived a long healthy life (still worked in the field until he was 93) so he did alright.
  • David 11/1950 - 03/2009  My best friend and the love of my life. Kidney cancer.
  • Cody Hawkins 4/4/86 - 12/7/99

Cody (my nephew) was diagnosed with sarcoma (bone cancer) when he was 10 yrs old. He passed away when he was only 13 yrs old. Dec 7th is always a sad day for our family.
  • I lost my mom to cancer when she just turned 57.  She was funny, a savior to strays both human and animal, an artist, a gourmet chef, a writer, a gardener and gave me the gift of horses in my life.  I miss her every day but feel her when I sketch, cook/bake, garden and spend time with horses.
  • Dana, I don't think I knew you sketched....
  • Yep, I'll have to show you my portfolio sometime!  Someday when I don't have to make $ doing something else, that's what I'm going to do....... I sketch, use pastels and do pointilism ':)'  People, horses, cats, fish, flowers.....

My mom did ink and pencil sketches and watercolors.  Sadly, all but a few of her pieces were destroyed when my parents' house burned a year after she died.  I still can picture her work in my mind though ':)'
  • That's too cool!! [':)']  A wonderful legacy!

  • My mom died of lung cancer in 1989. She was 65 and smoked. A big piece of me at the age of 30 1/2 died along with her.
  • My friend Joyce Zell joined the Church Triumphant last year due to Cancer.  She was seventy years old.  She had survived three previous bouts with it and lost the fourth.  Joyce was a very kind and generous person.  She was always the first to greet a stranger and make them feel at home.  It's a comfort to know Joyce is just over the river and I'll see her again when it's my turn to cross the River of Life.

By the by, my mother died at seventy-three of complications from a stroke and an HMO (don't get me started, please).  She had smoked from the age of twelve and her doctor said her lungs were clear and clean.  She had checkups on a yearly basis and x-rays every-other year.  Though I do believe that smoking can add to the risk of Cancer by unnecessarily stressing the body, I also firmly believe that the evidence that it causes  Cancer is weak.

Mother also joined the Church Triumphant on March 28th, the same day as Joyce.
  • Wish there was a cure for this awful thing called cancer....

Lost my mom to pancreatic cancer on December 14, 2000.  She was my best friend, part of me went with her.
Also lost three aunts to cancer, and a dear friend to cancer, several years ago.  And a cousin who was more like a brother to me (he lived with us when he was 18 after his mom died), he died of lung cancer the year after my mom passed.
