Stem Cell Research - TOO cool!
  • I heard this on my way home and was totally amazed.  First, adult stem cell research has proven scientific results in the treatment of over 70 diseases.

NOW, they've helped restore sight.  The doctors use a person who is blind in one eye.  They take some stem cells from the edge of the good eye, cultivate them on a contact lens.  They place the lens in the blind eye and the stem cells transfer themselves off of the lens on to the eye and begin repairing the problem.  Is that way too cool?

The human body is so amazing.
  • Its great that they have done that but,....i don't think they should mess around with nature too much.

I'm sorry, but are you kidding? God gave us a brain, and if we use it to gain knowledge on a way to treat 70 diseases and possibly save millions of lives, why shouldn't we do that? That is simple common sense to me.
  • oh no that's not what i meant. I mean the whole making clones of people and animals stuff like that. I think its wrong,if God wanted there to be two of us we would all be identical twins. But still how do they think they can do that when they can't give a body a heart and soul. Only God can do that.Things like that really tick me off. You can love me or hate me but my opinion stays the same. no offense to anyone. ':)'
  • I'm against infant stem cell research BUT if I'm blind in one eye and all you have to do is scrape a few cells off the other eye to fix me, how is that worse than a transplant?  Are transplants wrong in your opinion?  Just wondering.

I'm not really in favor of cloning, either.  It seems like a lot of money being spent on what?  Creating and taking life is God's job - making it better using what God gave us is up to us.  Why waste what He gave us?
  • Yes i am totally 100% for transplant but no wayyyy not for infant stem cell research. Do you see what i mean though?

I have an horrible way of explaining things....i tend not too

I totally agree.  Nix on infant stem cell research.  What's ironic is the lack of scientific success with that grisley route.  But adult has had some terrific achievements! I think the umbilical cord stem cells are fairly successful.  I understand what you mean, Dix.  I'm witcha.
