Teenage car wreck....
  • My son's little friend - one of the few who doesn't hang up when I answer the phone and is actually quiet polite to me - has wrecked her car.  She had passengers who were injured - not sure of the extent.  She had liability insurance.  They were not wearing seatbelts - hopefully they've learned the hard way about that mistake.
She sounds very shaken, verge of tears, etc.  She called earlier about getting a trailer to use to get her car.  boywonder likes to help but had previously promised someone else a ride to renew tags so he said after he helped one person he would help her.
She called back to say she found a trailer and I asked some questions about how she's doing, was it her fault (yes) etc.  She's going to try to pull some parts to sell and get the tires and rims off then scrap the rest.  She wants boy's help.  I asked where it was located - at her house?  She said her parents don't want it anywhere in their site.  (must be royally ticked off) so she was planning to take it to a car lot not far away.  I offered to let her bring it here if it didn't sit for long.  She said she plans to pull it apart all in one day.  It has to be pulled to the side so it won't obstruct but it probably won't be here long.
Let me tell you when I suggested that I could hear the girl light up like a Christmas tree.  For some reason that seemed to take a huge load off of her.
My horses still have another week or two before the winter rye is ready for grazing and the car will be in an area not planted....
At least I'll know where boy will be when he's not working....
eta: everyone makes mistakes and, since I'm not her parents, I don't know how many this girl has already made.  Losing her car is pretty much punishment in itself.  She's in high school.
  • She is blessed to have you for a friend
  • Poor kid. Gotta be there when they need you. Teenagers think they are immortal and then get their world shaken. Glad you are there to help her out.
  • Okay, boy helped her get the car loaded up and hauled off.  They took it straight to the salvage yard and he helped get the parts off she wanted to get.  I guess the catalytic converters are worth something.  So she didn't need me after all.
My son knows the passengers and says he doesn't think they'll sue her.  *crosses fingers*  She said she thinks they all got concussions.  yikes
