  • New name, well kinda..but still me! I couldn't remember my password and couldn't remember what e-mail account it was tied to, so this was much easier!
Still have my same mare (Quarter Horse) and have managed not to acquire anymore, which my hubby is very happy about. I ended up back here looking for help and or opinions on a situation at the barn where I board. Someone bought a horse in with strangles...long story but it all equals my horse being sick and me not being happy.[:@]
I see some old members as well as some new members. Looking forward to catching up with everyone!
  • HIYA!  I'm in the desert, didja notice? [':D']
Sorry about your situation.   My horse farm neighbors had a baby w/strangles and they&nbsp';p'retty much ignored it and it want away.  That is, they left baby w/herd.  I guess the germ (or whatever it is) can lay dormant in pastures awhile and be picked up later.  That doesn't mean anyone would WANT that disgusting condition for their horse.
One thing, if your horse has it and fights it off, you might as well consider him innoculated.
ALWAYS remember it's a live virus vaccine and you do NOT want to breathe any of it as your horse gets it sprayed up the nose and it comes out in a sneeze fast.  Airborne particles can get in eyes, etc and cause SEVERE problems in people. Low immunity issues need to NOT even be in the barn while it's being done!
  • Hi Danger!!  Sorry your horse has strangles, my Cody had it once when he was about 2, the other older geldings we took places must have brought it back to him from somewhere but they never got it, must have either had it or been innoculated...... hang in there.... it happens, even if you don't board.
