Hello. I have an appaloosa named Zephyr who had a worrying case of Uveitis. Lots of tearing and oozing. Blindness is supposed to result in many or most cases. Somewhere short of a year go I decided to see if maybe alfalfa might be the cause. I don't remember why I suspected it. Maybe because it's a legume (in the bean family) and not a grain (which is a horse's normal diet). Anyway I took her completely off alfafa and guess what since then, with one exception, she's had no symptoms. The one exception was when I bought her some vitamins. After buying I discovered that the main ingredient was alfafa. I gave it to her just to see. Only one dose - and she had a recurrence.
I'm not claiming that alfalfa is absolutely the cause, and being a bit superstitious I don't want to jinx it, but in my case I'm pleased with how it's going.
Just thought I'd pass this along.
