  • Anyone use these?  Can anyone reccomend a good one?  I'm thinking Reidar is going to need one this spring...if it ever comes that is.
  • I tried to use one on my haflinger, Toby.  LOL.  I put it on him, he tossed his head back while giving me the eye - "what the heck is this?"  Then he dropped his head, stepped on it and yanked up.  Destroyed the sucker in just a few seconds.  We decided to use a dry lot after that with limited time on pasture.  [&:]

I'd love to dry lot him but I board and they don't have a dry lot...My schedule doesn't allow for me to go and give him limited turn out either.
  • I've seen people use them.  I never have.  I'm paranoid about leaving stuff on them in the pasture.  They're nekid.   But I will put a blankie on two of them - I just don't really like to.
  • I'm thinking of a grazing muzzle this year, too. I don't leave halters on my horses but one of the grazing muzzles has a halter with a velcro type closure. Should come off if caught.

I have used it on different horses and it worked fine so far. During the first few months in spring almost all the time and then just during nighttime in summer. I am using the Best Friend Deluxe Grazing Muzzle. Easy to clean and doesn't rub too much.
  • Horse.com has a breakaway muzzle that is the same as the Best Friends brand (I have both) for less than half the price.  Honestly, I have little luck keeping either of them on for more than an hour or two so the "at risk" pony lives on dry lot.  You might have better luck, this pony is a real stinker.
