I encourage any beginner to do English lessons for a while first. The schools usually furnish all tack etc. All you need is a helmet and the shoes with a good heel (cowboy boots are usually fine)
Wow. I just looked and you ain't kidding! 46 miles to branford, 50 to that ranch place. Can you check at your feed stores and see? Or put up a flyer? But you want to be absolutely sure it's a safety minded place. I'd really be sure she has a riding helmet! (I'm sure you do.)
Also, I'm tend to be the kind of person who will just stop at a place with horses and ask. But that's just me. Talking to everyone.
