Hackney Pony???
  • I rescued  a mare from slaughter who was pregnant. She looks hackney but doesn't have the crazy high gait. Not sure if the gait is something that has to be taught or if it's natural. She also gave birth to a stud colt that looks like a haflinger! She is about 12.2-12.3hh. She has a very smart look to her and everything we do with her, we feel she has had some training.

My pictures wouldn't upload so I hope these links will work...
  • Here is the foal.
  • Here is the mare...so any guesses on the breeds would be awesome! Thanks!
  • She's a  beauty!! the links don't work for me.  There's always Welsh! I love those ponies. Baby is a cutie, too!! Thank you so much for rescuing them!
  • Yeah, the links didn't work for me either, but I got it figured out...lol I have been around a welsh pony that I drove in CEDs and I don't think they could be welsh. I love the welsh breed! And thanks! I couldn't say no to them! After getting her, it only took 2 1/2 weeks before she foaled him. She has proven us wrong with everything we try with her. There has to be some training but we are starting from the ground up just to make sure. ':)'
  • She and the colt are lovely!  How about Dartmoor or....... can't think of the other English breed, oh, maybe Exmoor?
  • Not all Hackneys travel with the 'crazy high action.'  Some pick up their knees naturally and others simply skim the grass.  The gait is natural and can be augmented with training and shoes.

No your pony isn't Dartmoor, Dales, Exmoor, Blackforest, or Hackney.  She looks to me to be Welsh Mountain.  I have a friend with her match.  The foal looks like a really nice little fellow.

Best of luck with them both.
