Won't lunge, won't move

• drsierra Posted : 7/28/2011 6:42:35 PM I have two mares. One is a 7 yr old retired TB that was abandoned and is nicely gaining weight, but I'm not riding her until she gains. The other is a 3 yr old Paint QH that I trained to saddle a few months ago and have been riding at a walk to get her broke to weight and balance. All of a sudden now she refuses to move. I've tried hitting her butt with the reins, light spurs, talking, kissing, and nothing. Also, she refuses to lunge. Again, tried whip, stick, flag and nothing - she does not lunge. Unfortunately, I do not have a round pen. [] Nah!  Probably not!   Why not go back to "in hand" work.  Just leading, backing, emphasizing voice commands.  You can get some nice yields in hand before she even realizes she's on a line.  Do some circles with the lead rope.  Then maybe lengthen a little at a time?    We have a real trainer here somewhere.... *looks under nearby rock* LIKE Like Share You have posted to a forum that requires a moderator to approve posts before they are publicly available. Any ideas - anyone?    Be sure that there is not any pain anywhere,keep a eye on thrush and fonder.Other than that I don't know but I'm sure someone on here can help.
