  •          Today I didn't go to the barn. However, in school, I was assigned a miniature pony to research. Does anyone know any information about them, or really good websites or books? I would be most grateful because all I can find are pictures!
  • Hey there, I happen to have a few Miniature Horses and have been breeding them for a few years. What do you want to know? There is quite a bit of info on both registry sites: American Miniature Horse Association and American Miniature Horse Registry (both different registries). I drive and have done a few little competitions with them. Here is a picture of my pride and joy, FireFly's Rebel Command, aka Fire. They are a lot of fun.
  • Wow, Jmebear!  He really does look like a miniature horse!  He has great conformation and is so proportionate!  Love Appys too!
  • Thank you! I do love this little stallion. He is only 33 3/4 inches tall. Some people don't believe me when I show that picture. He is very gentle and sweet. I love the spots too! I bought him when he was 5 days old. He was my first mini horse. He is another picture of us competing in a CDE playday, on the marathon course. He got the best dressage score of the day at that event. I was quite proud of him.
  • Anything that you think could be good to know about for their care. What ever you think could be useful for a research project. Thanks!
  • OH he's a lovely little appy boy!!  DaneHaven has his twin in a full size mare.
  • Research on Dwarfism in Miniature Horses might be a good project. It's something anyone who is interested in mini's needs to be aware of. Especially in American minis. There are over 100 types of dwarfism, some not very apparent and some are heart wrenching deformities. In most types the gene must be carried by both the dam and the sire. I read somewhere that over 60% of minis carry a dwarfism gene. Breeding stock must be carefully selected and researched. Don't breed the horse just because it's cute! (pet peeve) The smaller the mini the bigger the chances of dwarfism. Anyway if this interests you just search the registry sites for links or email me. Glad to help with any questions. Also mini's are not the only breed with dwarfism problems. Some Friesian horses have dwarfism in their lines as well.
  • Thank you so much![':D']
