  • grrr.  still can't seem to upload a picture from my files to here.
  • My process is a bit long but I like NOT using photobucket so.....

When you reply to a post, or if you start a thread, there is a "lit up" phrase below your dialogue box that says You may attach file(s) to this message  If you click on that, it brings up a box that normally lets you load 4 pictures (I've had it come up with only one).  When you hit "Select" your Pictures which are stored on your computer should come up.

Okay, now it gets a little tricky... or long.  And it takes me a long time to edit my pics cuz I'm a stickler for good pics if at all possible.
Right click on the pic you want to share and choose Edit.  It will probably open up gigantic and I'm assuming you are now in a "Paint" program window.

Along the top, select Image and then Stretch/Skew.  If you want to keep the whole picture you want to put somewhere between 25 and 30 in those two blocks (use the same number for both blocks).  That will put your picture into a size the forum will take.  IF YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR ORIGINAL GIGANTIC PICTURE - and I sometimes do, you have to click File then SAVE AS.

Next tip:  Sometimes you have a very small subject with a lot of scenery in your pictures.  When you first choose Edit, you now have a much larger subject because the whole picture is bigger.  (You're also back in the Paint window...)  All the options to the left of the picture... choose the little block with the dotted lines.  Then you can crop the part of the picture you want to share. Keep in mind, the size you are now seeing is what is going to show on the forum, more or less.  If your subject is now HUGE and hanging outside of your computer screen, it's too big.  So go back to Image and size it down JUST ENOUGH to get your whole picture subject on your screen and then crop it.  You can really make your pictures look great doing this.  Remember to hit UNDO if you aren't happy with what you did until you get it just right.  Once you've "boxed" in the picture you want, you have to go to file and choose "COPY TO".  Then you can name you cropped photo anything you want, and save it.  When you close out your original, I never choose "save changes" in case I want to do something else with the original picture.  LAST STEP - the new and improved cropped picture is in BTMP format and that's not good for uploading so you have to open it, go to File, then Save As and do your dropdown (under your picture name) and pick JPG.  When you close it, your BTMP pic is still there - I always delete it right away to save confusion.   THEN you can hit Open and load it to your post.

I TOLD you it was long and drawn out!   If I have a bunch of pictures to post I just click around on them and fix a bunch on the front end so I can just attach them to my post quickly.

  • Cropped....
  • Uncropped...  (I took several of the little guy - I think this is the one the previous pic is cropped from.  They are all about the same.)
  • Thank you.  I will try.  It sounds like what I vaguely remember I went through (with someone's instructions) to put Harley's picture up with my info.
  • Yes!  I have uploaded another picture.  This is the 7 yr. old Quarter Horse, Colonel.  He is really one of the sweetest horses ever.  That is my husband, Cal, dozing in front of him.
  • ok, I have no idea why the picture is so small, but will keep trying.  This machine has Vista.  Maybe I should go to my desktop, it has Windows XP and I might have better luck uploading pictures here.

Just uploaded a head shot of Colonel.  I guess my original of him with Cal is too big and I can not seem to get it down to a size the site will accept.  Sigh.  I like the picture and wanted to share it.  Let's see how big this picture is.
  • Here is that picture, I cropped it a lot and the program says it is loaded.  I might get the hang of this after all.
  • I love both of those, especially with your husband.  Very artistic!  Was he sad because he was out of coffee? [':)']
  • No, he was just taking a break from a day of helping sort out some of the extra tack.  We took some to a local auction and freed up some room in the barn.  Colonel and his stablemate enjoyed having us spend more time in their space.  Colonel is always looking for something new to try and apparently thought if coffee was good enough for Cal, it should be fine for him.
