Chicago
  • My daughter, Kylene and her husband live in Chicago. She had a baby shower in MO 2 weeks ago, but because she had flown in for that, she wanted me to deliver the baby presents to her. I guess she thought I could handle the drive a lot better than her 7 months pregnant body could. After about a 10 hour drive, my friend Pat and I made it to Chicago late Thu afternoon. Kylene had saved me a place to park on her street. She thought it was a big space, but I wasn't sure I could manage to parallel park in it or not. I did it with her guidance and then Ryan took their car to the garage that is with their condo. It amazes me that people here can maneuver their cars into such "very small" spaces. Chicago is a totally different world than this country girl is used to!

We went to a pizza place to eat Thu night that had some very good pizza. Fri morning, we took a bus and headed to Shedd's Aquarium. That have just finished a 50 million dollar renovation and have had free admission all week. We walked towards that area and found that there was a line a mile long and I am not really exaggerating very much. After a short discussion, we decided it wasn't worth it and walked down along Lake Michagan for awhile.

We then headed on towards Grant Park and as we walked along, the clouds were starting to move in. In the center of this picture, you can see Sears tower.

We got something to drink and after that, the clouds were starting to look pretty wicked. This is Buckingham Fountain with the black clouds behind it.

Before we could find a place to stay dry, it started to rain. They have put some tents up in preparation for their big 4th of July celebration, so we took shelter in one of them. Shortly after we got in there, it started to absolutely pour down, so we were very glad to find this tent. This is me and my daughter, Kylene.

When the rain let up, we walked on down towards an area where an orchestra was practicing. I left my umbrella with Kylene and went to take a few pictures. This is The Bean.

Before I made it back, the skies suddenly opened up again and I got pretty wet in a very short time. We went into a bathroom and I went into a stall and handed my shirt to Kylene. She held it under a hand dryer and got it fairly dry.

It was about 1 o'clock by then, so we decided to head back to Kylene's neighborhood and find a place to eat lunch.

We had one of the waiters take our picture. I just got a new perm, so kind of look like a wet poodle.

I thought it was kind of interesting that only waiters worked in this restaurant. I didn't see a single female working in there.

Kylene lives a very short distance from the Greek area of Chicago, so we walked back to her condo from there, which is just down the street and around the corner from the Greek Isle Restaurant.
I took this picture from the balcony just before dark. It is supposed to be nice weather for the weekend, so the clear sky just barely visible above the horizon should be a good sign.

    Night, all.
  • [8|] "The Bean"?

Elaine, I just LOVE your pictures!  You always tell a good story, too.  Fact is... um... better than fiction in the case of your threads.  Are you still there and will you take more pictures and when will you get home and will you eat at the Greek place and... um...  was it warm?  I love your hair!  [8|] Did you SEE any wet poodles?  I spent a little time in Chicago once and this brings me back.  Thanks so much!
