My hubby was at work going to Independence KS on a job assignment. He works at a petroleum company putting in under ground storage tanks at gas stations. Been there about two and a half years now. When he was on his way back he stopped to get gas and had to go around a car that was parked in a odd place at the gas station, he went around the car and then herd a big thump, looked in the mirror and seen that the air compressor was in the ditch, thinking that is what made the thump, he kept going and then the work truck came to a dead jolting stop. He got out and looked and he realized he went over a guard rail about knee high. FYI the work tuck is a GMC Topkit and it is pretty big with a lot of blind spots. He hit the guard rail on the passenger side. He was over it so his only way to get off if it was to back up. Damage was to the tool boxes that is on the bed, pretty good dent in it and he also screwed up the step to the bed pretty bad, about ripped it off. Guard rail was fine, he went inside the gas station to tell them, the people all said it was fine, didn't hurt the guard post so don't worry about it. Then he called his boss, he was upset and told him to just drive on back to the shop and let him look it over.
Once he got back to the shop, his boss was not happy but knew it was an accident. His bosses only problem was he had to call Money. Money (yes that is his REAL name) is the guy the owner of the company hired to be the A-hole. He is the one that controls everything; work trucks, money, jobs ect. He has no personality and is just that, a major A-hole. His other boss at the shop is a sweet guy, he loves my hubby to death and don't really want to see him get fired but if Money says let him go, he has to choice but to let him go. He messed up a different vehicle about a year and a half ago. My hubby was running a skid loader and accidentally knocked off a semi mirror and the company had to pay for it and so on; so this has happened once before.
His boss had to call Money this afternoon and let him know what happened. They are all worried Money will tell my hubby#%92s boss to let him go. He is going into work tomorrow and will find out if he is ok or fired; so all night he will have to worry! Most likely he is going to be fired over this which I think is stupid! Do you think he could apply for unemployment if he gets fired? He handled it well, going in and talking to the gas station people, called his boss on the spot, and over all it WAS an accident, not like he purposely did it. I'm so worried!!
