I had 4 horses in my field 3 cobs and 1 morgan they have all had more hay to eat than they could manage and a good bucket of feed a day. The 3 cobs look great but the morgan became to loose weight 3 weeks ago so i bought him a new rug and upped his feed to 2 buckets
a day i just thought that that would do it i also gave him another wormer in case it was worms but he still lost weight on thursday this week he became tangled into his rug and a vet was called the vet noticed that he had a blood discharge from his privates.

He later died of colic this friday morning he had a few episodes of colic over the last few years and muscle damage for this last year on his rear quarters since he got himself caught up in his stable, the vet has taken a lot of blood tests but i feel awful as people thought that he must have been starved but he always ate more than the two mares put together please could you let me know if you know what is was or has anyone had this problem

I googled, causes of horse colic, and found the following article on a website. Hope it helps you find a cause. Sorry about your horse.

Based on the information you gave, it would be impossible to come up with a definitive answer to what killed this horse. Your blood work should of revealed elevated abnormal levels that would give you a sence of what was going on. Personally, I would be thinking along the lines of liver failure, endotoxaemia and even throw in cancer/tumors.

Thanks for the colic link, crookedPost. I'm sorry to hear about the Morgan. Had a long bout this morning with my mare. She got beat up by her pasture and stall mate of 7 years since Friday when he decided to become a bully. Kicked her hard in the left hind quarters sometime on Fri. just thought it was an isolated incident, but he did it again yesterday. She was down this morning when I went out to feed and was locked up with colic. I thought it was just from being sore. I had given her some equine buyt last night and separated them....for good. Kept her from rolling and walked her around for a couple of hours, loaded her in the trailer and drove rough roads for about 30 minutes, walked and trotted her around for about 5 minutes and she finally blew. Whew. The stress and pain of the injury had to have been the culprit. She has never done this before and is 28 yo.
