Bad Mane Day!

Bad Mane Day!
  • Hi Guys!
I need some advice about my horse's mane, it is a mess! His mane is really thick, and it is the summer which is too hot for him and also the weather has been really hot which is not helping, and he is also black so it makes it even hotter for him, also his mane had grown on the other side! Now it looks like he has two manes! I really want to fix it but i have no idea how. I just wanted the mane on one side, and I also wanted it thinner for the summer.
    Thanks:)
  • I thin by pulling but there's a trick to it.  Some horses can't tolerate a lot at one time.  I think once you get it thin you can braid it to stay on one side.  There's some stuff at ethnic hair supply stores.... okay - they're common in Memphis.  It works great.  It's called Kolestral..... there's Placenta, too.  [8|]  Probably named after someone's kid.  *snicker*  I use it on my horses manes and tails to get tangles out and it smells good-ish.
  • Ok, Thanks so much!
  • You could always roach it... then it looks like the mane is always on the other side.  [';)']  it should begin to grow back before winter hits.
  • alright, thanks, well it still sort of is a mess, i have been trying to thin it out a bit and it seems to be working a bit lol. but before i didnt know that horses didnt have feeling in there crest/mane. so yeah once i found out i put some more force into it when i was brushing it. and he seems to like it more since he gets "sleepy eyes" lol thats what i call it lol.
but thanks for helpin me ';)'
  • You could try braiding it into really tight braids all on the side you want it to be on and leave them in for about a week at a time.  The braids will help train it and the tightness and length of time will cause some of the hair to be pulled out.
