Mystery rash

• Magic Mare Posted : 5/26/2013 1:18:52 AM A mare in our barn has this rash??? it's driving her (and us) crazy with itching. It's not any one specific place because today she was itching her butt but also itching her neck and head. She's healthy, clean and has a good appetite. She's starting to look pretty awful. Just about everything has been tried with no success. Maybe worms, but she's wormed regularly. Any hints? • Durangogramma Posted : 5/26/2013 3:08:50 PM Possibly allergies. Don't know where you live but think about what is putting off a lot of pollen right now. I had a horse that was allergic to oak pollen. Would scratch and scratch when the oak trees pollinated. Ask a local vet and maybe there's an antihistamine she can be given... • danastark Posted : 5/28/2013 1:34:23 PM Our paint gelding has fly-bite dermatitis and gets very itchy and scratches his jaw, neck, shoulders, front legs until he's bald.... it is improving as he gets older.  Tried all kinds of stuff to help him (garlic, spirulina tablets, oral antihistimines, cortisone shots) and nothing really seemed to do a lot to help him except good fly control.   Sounds like hives on your mare though.  Allergic to something.  Goodluck!   LIKE Like Share You have posted to a forum that requires a moderator to approve posts before they are publicly available.
