I HATE FLIES!!!! Help!

• CozmoandGunner Posted : 6/14/2011 4:41:16 AM Ok so usually I can use Horse and Pony spray to keep the flies off Gunner but for some reason, they seem to be amuned to it this summer?! Anyways... I was searching around and keep hearing good things about the garlic supplement you feed your horse and it takes about 2 weeks to get in their system but starts to seep the smell though the skin and flies wont bite them. And I also seen where you can crush up garlic and mix it with water and spray it on your horses and that works too. Anyone used this method? Also what do you use to keep the flies off your horses? Need some help because my poor baby is getting eatin up and nothing I seem to do works. I even tried the Spot on or something like that. Sorta the same as frontline for dogs accept it is for horses and that sh*t don't work at all! So flusterated! • face Posted : 6/14/2011 8:59:49 AM A lot of people say that flies become immune to various sprays so you have to change them. Last year we used RepelX and it worked great. This year it is not so great, so now we are adding Avon's Skin So Soft to Repelx and it is working better again. I think garlic can help, but some horses can have issues with it. We add 3 ounces of Apple Cider Vinegar to their dinner feeding every night. Horses do not have a problem with vinegar, other than getting use to the taste. • danastark Posted : 6/14/2011 2:03:23 PM I did the garlic thing, fed my horses up to 4 tablespoons dried garlic and it didn't seem to help a bit.  I use Ultrashield or Tri-Tech 14 fly spray, kind of expensive but it does help.  Make sure your manure is picked up well and if you have a barn or shed, a strong fan helps.  They learn to stand in the breeze LIKE Like Share You have posted to a forum that requires a moderator to approve posts before they are publicly available. • hunterseat Posted : 6/15/2011 11:29:46 AM I use Simplifly because I don't have other horses too nearby.  It makes the manure lethal for fly larvae.  I also use Avon SSS mixed with  ACV and eucolyptus oil for fly spray.
