Health problem or "Attitude"
  • Shasta is a 9 year old quarter horse mare.  She is so docile that she has been supporting children with Hippotherapy for the past year.  In the last month, she will pin ears and kick out when her sides are touched.  While an adult is riding, conditioning her, she spins her tail and tightens up when her sides are touched.
  • ouch! Sounds like pain for sure!  How unusual for a horse with such a history!  (at least I'd think that was unusual)
I have one that had a choking episode = he nearly died.  He kicked himself, the fence, the neighbor...  I'd never seen him kick before!
  • Forgot to say I hope you figure it out and let us know what's going on!  Probably a great idea to talk to your vet about it!  Ulcers is a possibility and the Ulcer-guard people have a great site that gives you all kinds of info and symptoms to look for.
  • Just a thought....maybe something happened with her ribs and they're broken or something, that is, if where she becomes irritated is where her ribs are. Good luck finding the problem!
