Beet Pulp shreds vs pellets
  •   Okay... both are close in price, pellets take longer to soak.... my horse eats either one... so what are the advantages of one vs the other ?

  • I believe it is preferance and if you like the shreds better than use that.

  •  Well...Lex my mare will eat either.. but Dolly Jean the mule seems to like the soaked pellets...doesn't really matter just wondered what other folks were feeding and why...
  • I prefer shreds because they soak up easier and they are less likely to remain in clumps and thus less likely to cause choke.  I've had choke issues happen with alfalfa pellets and beet pulp pellets even after soaking for a while and we believe that because they are so tightly packed they didn't break apart of the soaking.
  •  I have noticed that the pellets seem cleaner, but do take an awful long time to  soak... I soak the alfalfa pellets as well... The guy at the feed store was a little surprized to find out I soak my alfalfa cubes ( when I use them ) I break them apart before soaking... may take a little extra time.. however twice I have found small rocks in the cubes...so for me the extra time is worth it.. • I prefer soaking senior pellets (Golden Age - No Mollasses) with Rice Bran.  2 - 5 minutes soaked.  I make sure that the water completely covers the feed by about a full inch, then mix and let soak.  Messy, but yummy':)'
  • I soak my senior feed, too, which is complete with the addition of alfalfa pellets.  Soaking does take time but I wanted to say, in cold weather I take a couple of gallon jugs of hot water to soak feed with and it soaks up REALLY fast!!!  Hot meals! [':D']  (but my horses are NOT spoiled!)
  • The difference between shred and pellets is fiber. The shreds have the fiber...always go for the fiber.
