Kelly's project horse, Calypso
  • We've been checking Kelly's new mare out, looking for holes in her foundation and so far she seems to be doing well.  She respects your space, leads, ties, can be touched allover, can get her feet done, handled, you can catch her, lunges, gets in the trailer.  We have taken a saddle pad and rubbed and swung it on her, both sides and she was fine.  Kelly got up on the mounting block tonight and patted, thumped her allover her back and sides.  She leaned on her, both sides, took her feet off the block and lay on her, finally swung a leg over and although Calypso moved forward, nothing big, no fear :)  Kelly is happy!
  • Awesome!
Has she put a saddle on yet?
Lunging with a saddle usually tells the story.
  • Back from riding and we had a great time and Kelly's new mare proved herself to be a really good girl ':)'  She got in the trailer, 3rd time in her life, just needed to sniff it first which is fine.  She was excited when we got there but calmed down quickly and hung out in a corral while we rode.  Then we got her out and Kelly ponied her in the arena.  She must have been ponied before because she just trucked along, no big deal, turns, over poles, trotting, etc., nice and relaxed.  Then we practiced some more weight bearing and she did fine so Kelly went ahead and slid up on her and I led them around for about 5 minutes.  She was fine, looking around, relaxed expression on her face ':)'  Kelly is very happy.  We drove over to lunch and at first she was antsy in the trailer while parked with the window open but relaxed and started eating her hay.  She was riled up again when we got home but once we unloaded her and tied her up, she settled down.  Gave her her West Nile shot and she didn't even notice.  She is such a lovely girl.  Sad that she has been wasted all these years but doesn't seem to have been messed up by anyone either so that is a really good thing.
