Competition Problems
  • My mare is 9 years old nd is an amazing jumper, she NEVER stops schooling, hacking and cross country but when she competes over show jumping she does.
We know that this is not due to me dropping her or not having sufficent leg on but that she is nervous to take off and doesnt trust herself.

Anyway when at competitions she warms up fine but it is only when she gets into the showjumping ring that the refusing occurs. When she attempts to stop she always jumps into the first fence and that makes it all even worse. This has became such a problem that it has happened on our last 2 outings.

What can I do to help her overcome it??
  • Show her in chicken classes and hope for the best.  Don't lose your temper.  I had a great jumper who soured over fences and that was it.  We took nearly every hunter pleasure and equitation class we entered.   BUT I took a jump without him in the show ring once.  Not worth it.  Get another horse to jump and show her on the flat.  Take her cross country/fox hunting and give the girl some fun.
