Gelding

im going to have to say thats not true because it depends on the horse,
i used to ride a grumpy old rope horse named buster and some days i swear he wanted to kill me and other days he was like a love sick puppy dog,
my horse and i have had a rocky relationship from the start but we have a very good stong bond and it came with time, for diablo and i it wasnt love at first sight,
i rode a mare my cousin owns that she claimed couldnt be ridden and was hard to control, psshh i hopped on bareback and rode circles around a red faced cousin of mine, but the mare and i somehow clicked when my crazy butt hopped on a fresh off the track racehorse, her and i still have a very strong bond, she isn't my horse because of financial issues but i know she's the one horse i have that one special bond with
 
moral of my blabbing i believe it depends on the horse and the person, just like people all horses have different personalities good luck with the gelding!

I agree with tripleluckyprince. It all depends on the horse. They are all different.

Mares have the reputation of being moody but also a reputation that when they bond with you they will do anything for you and give your 110%

Geldings have a reputation of not being moody and being more consistent but maybe only giving you 100%. They are more forgiving of you whereas a mare may remember a bad situation longer.

However, the key word above is REPUTATION. Reality is often different.

Between my sister and I, we have 6 horses. 3 mares, 3 geldings. We have moody mares AND geldings.

In my opinion, a dog is a dog is a dog all day long. My meaning here is, a dog's personality is very consistent. With a horse, you never know who you will be dealing with from day to day or even hour to hour.  They are all different and each individual horse can be different from day to day. The key is finding a horse that YOU click with.

Mare or gelding, both can be moody, tempermental, stubborn, sweet, kind, gentle.
 
Depends on the horse.  Mare do have heat cycles, but I have seen some who you can barely tell are in heat too.

Depends on the handler & the way the horse is treated, more so than it depends on the horse I reckon. A horse is a horse, and while they're all individuals, aside from possible hormonal probs that cause pain & therefore crabbiness in some mares when in season, I've never found a real difference between mares & geldings in those I've owned & worked with.
