• hunterseat Posted : 8/9/2010 12:22:56 AM Dana, I recently (in Texas) was looking through a horse book and saw the breed.  From speaking with Niagra before I understood them to be French Standardbreds.  But looking back, I think she may have said "LIKE" a Standardbred.  What I read was very enlightening so I looked up the breed and there may be SOME Stbd in them but there's more other stuff. http://www.thefrenchhorse.com/FrenchTrotterHorseBreed.html Also, Niagra, so they pace (the lateral gate that most Stb's race at) or are they strictly trotters?  Anyway, Niagra Du Val is a beauty!  Glad he's doing well for you!  I guess you finally got a barn you like?  I THINK the last I heard you were at a place with a couple of not-very-nice guys. • Niagara Posted : 8/9/2010 9:38:41 AM A french trotter is a breed of race horse, they have trotting races and galloping races over here. A trotter is like a thoroughbred except it is used for trotting, They are taught to trot very very fast without braking into canter, Which is why a lot of trotters can't canter. Mine can though [] They like to go everywhere in a flat out trot (which is bloody horrible!!)
