I lost my job about 2 weeks ago. The biggest thing I hate is that - I've been thinking that employer A is going to offer me a job, because they are checking up on my references and I am just waiting for their job offer. In the mean time, because the first job would be overnights I could work a second job. Again, I was kind of expecting Employer B, Target, whom I have worked for before, to also offer me a position. After spending over 1 1/2 hours interviewing plus filling out the application at the store kiosk, they sent me a no thanks EMAIL. Does that seem cold? Maybe they wanted me to work weekends, which I can't if I get Job A...but I still would have been available for both holidays...and I am an experienced Bakery clerk, which is a skill not everone has.

Who knows. I mean, I played phone tag with Employer A this morning, she even sent me an email saying my phone was disconnected...huh? Its NOT and the bill was paid in Full on October 21st... and I'm thinking she is going to offer me the job, but no, its just a reference issue again... I don't know if I am coming or going...Bob is getting cranky about it too I think, he is expecting her to offer me the job, alright already get a move on here....

I should be glad someone is even considering me...I Know, but the Limbo is really crummy too.

I'll take 3 loaves of raisen bread and a couple dozen yeast rolls.
Do you make cat-head biscuits? how about cinnamon rolls?

I can understand what you are going through to an extent. The factory my husband works for will closed down next year, He has put in for a trasfer to two other plants, but we don't know when or if these transfers will go through before the plant closes. I keep telling myself that we just have to wait and see since there is nothing else we can do but it is hard to not know what or where we will be. Hang in there and I hope you find a job you will love. Good Luck to you

It's so different nowadays when you interview for jobs.... I lost my full time job in June of 2008, all I can find are part time jobs right now, but that's better than nothing I guess. The thing is how long they make you wait and all the crazy phone calls and the length of time it takes now for future employers to check references. It's awful, so I sure can relate to what you're having to go thru.

Last fall I had applied for this certain job, it took them about 3 months to finally get back to me, they called about my references three times. A friend of mine applied at the same place, she went thru the same thing.... it took them months and months.

Heck, even those temp places take forever now too. I remember when you used to be able to apply for a job and you'd get called within the week.

It's nuts out there. Keep bugging them tho, I applied at my current job about 7 or 8 times I think.... it took forever, but finally got in there..... about drove me insane tho.

I should just fill out applications every day 8 hours a day. But the gas money is an issue too - I have been thinking about playing my saxophone at bars...so tired of being home alone because Bob works nights.

Chill out hunterseat. Sounds like you are having some kind of carb attack.

A bakery clerk, packages bread, pies, cookies etc and pulls things from the freezer. I do not BAKE at all. IF it were summer time I could maybe sell some cookies at the local farmer's market, but a gourmet bread maker I am not.

AS for the saxophone, while there is an awesome Jazz quartet that plays in Cedar Rapids, one little saxophone isn't going to create a stir. I'd be lucky if they dropped enough change into my case to pay the gas.

I could make cookies and freeze them so I could sell them at the farmers market. I have always wanted to have a booth there. I am no more skilled at cookie making than anyone else though.

I still might try it sometime. There are some small, local bars that I think would be safe environments to play in. I was thinking seasonal music though, I haven't done Jazz in years.

Memphis is a great place for street musicians. They set up whole bands out there. Of course....this is Memphis.

Gotcha. I have never seen a street musician in Iowa. Guess I am living in the wrong state.

Not even in the bigger cities?

It is called "busking", which I learned about 6 months ago. My son has been sitting in with some of the street musicians in Asheville and had to explain it to me.

The sax sounds cool in the train station or underground with the acoustics.

Any touristy place or a place with lots of restaurants or clubs would work. Places where there is a lot of foot traffic. Just check the local ordinances because some places require you to get a permit

Nothing underground here, no passenger trains, we have an airport but I was thinking the small town bars just for entertainment. ANYWAY>>

Today I was offered a position with a group home. It wasn't the hours that I wanted but fairly close. The house is an established one with little or no behavioral problems so I figure that is a good house to start at. Within a few hours a nursing home called and they talked to me and seemed interested in giving me some hours on my days off, so I could work more than 40 hours a week, which was actually the plan. I think I will get about 34 -36 hours at the first job, working 4 days, and would therefore have 3 days off to do the nurse aide thing. Ideally I wanted to work 2 overnights and cut down on the trips into town - maybe I can work up to a position like that.

That's great about the jobs!! When will yous start? Congrats, I hope one, or both of them, are really nice jobs.

We don't have street musicians here in WI either.... must be a Midwest thing to not have street musicians -- too cold maybe in winter?!!....LOL.

There are "street" musicians in Minneapolis/St. Paul. Outside before and after sporting events and almost anytime in the skyways. My dad used to work in a building that had a skyway and there was a saxaphone player there almost everyday during lunch hour.

Congrats on the job(s)! Hopefully they'll work out for you.
