Rough day for Shaylea

Rough day for Shaylea
  • Keep my kiddo in your thoughts.  She had reconstructive surgery on her foot yesterday and has been throwing up terribly all day, unable to keep anything including pain meds down.  We finally got an anti-nausea med. prescribed and as soon as my other daughter came home from school, I was able to go pick it up.  I didn't want to leave her alone because she was throwing up so badly, even out her nose!  She threw up the first pill but the Dr. said to give her 2 and a tiny sip of water and so far so good.  Made her all asleep if nothing else :)  Rough day....... Hope tonight goes better.
  • Prayed for.

Soo sorry for how she is feeling.  I know all too well how it is to need the pain meds to keep things endurable and then need something to help in dealing with the nausea.  Hope the meds work and you all get a restful (and much needed) sleep.
  • ACK!!!  What's causing that, Dana???  I hope she gets to feeling better.  It's not like she can afford to miss meals!  Poor baby!!
So what's up with the foot? I guess that curtails the ice skating for a while.
  • Poor kiddo. Sure hope she feels better soon.
  • Phew, finally quit throwing up, the 2 pills helped and then she had some gatorade and ibuprofen and a little noodle soup and she was out.  She did get some relief from the ibuprofen and slept all night in her own bed ':)'  Hopefully today will be a good day.  I'm going to give her a compazine 1/2 hr. before I give her anything else to eat or more pain meds.

Hunter-she basically has severe juvenile bunions, feet always hurting, squished into shoes (skates, jodphur boots, etc.) from bone deformities so she had the right foot corrected by shortening her metatarsal bone and shifting the end of it over some to straighten it out, taking a wedge out of her big toe bone and straightening that out and shaving off the deformity from the bunion, then all screwed and wired back together.  Ouch!

Thanks for your prayers and wishes.
  • Awww. Poor kid! Maybe a different pain med????
    Sending some super healing thoughts.
  • Poor thing.  Narcotics do the same thing to my stomach.[:'(]

    Hope she feels better soon!
  • Much better day ':)'  She actually ate 3 meals and is smiling.   We were able to maintain her on ibuprofen and Tylenol, didn't want to even try the vicodin again.  How do people get addicted to that stuff?

The weather has been so nice, we may move her out on the patio for a bit of sun tomorrow ':)'  Her poor little toes peaking out of the bandage are fat!
  • Gosh, and I thought it was bad being buck-toothed and cabbage-eared!   Antivert (which is perscribed for Minieres) affects me the same way.  One, two, threeeee....   Fooooour...

Shaylea and you have my deepest sympathies.    I pray that the doctor's hand was guided and performed everything exactly as it should and that the recovery will be everything your family hopes for.
  • Shaylea had a good day today, even hopped outside for some sunshine but it was too hot..... got up to 90+ today!  We'll attempt a shower or bath tomorrow-gotta wrap up the foot somehow..... ziploc and duct tape maybe?
  • Dana, they actually make things to protect casts, operation sites, and so forth from water.  I saw some in the local Kinney's and wondered why no on pointed them out to me after my knee surgery.  Sure would have made it simpler.  A large baggie and some kind of waterproof (that is in most drug stores) tape should do the trick.  I would think duct tape would be too sticky and hurt when it came off.  I can really understand the need for a shower.  It just makes you feel so much better.  Hope you find a workable solution.
  • Saran wrap,  start wrapping from the wound site overlapping going beyond on either side.
