My friend Amy came to ride yesterday.
We haven't ridden in a month it seems, due to rain and mud.
She took Jet because he is her favorite. I took Sarcee because she hadn't been ridden in at least 2 months?
I wondered how Sarcee would be with her long lay off. She was like a perfect old ranch horse.
Jet on the other hand got on Amy's very last nerve. Maybe he is not so favorite now.
We did half a loop around here and then took off down the road to Ever After.
Checked the fence all the way around and put an eye on the cattle. It was a glorious day.
Farrier today to catch up before the rain comes again.
Connie $1.50 a bale! We are at $8.50 a square. The bales are bigger but still.
We put out the last round of coastal ($100). It is pretty sorry looking but should be good once I get the outside layer off.
I had the rounds here stored out on pallets and tarped. Pilot wants to order a portable 12x20 to store rounds here.
It is nice to have the cattle to eat the bad hay. I have a square that got wet so it will go to cattle. I have the squares stacked in the dog kennel and tarped.
I only use squares when it rains or in between having a round available to peel off.
I am hoping there is another cutting this year to drive the price back down. Doubtful once they know they can get the high price. Like alfalfa squares used to be $8.00 but the last drought pushed the price up to $14-$16 and it has stayed.
Stude - Sorry about you ditching the truck. I know you must be feeing the "having it up to here" with one more thing to fix and do.
Everyone have a safe rest of the week.
