Saturday Safe
  • I hope Face is safe from hurricane damage.

We had an 1-1/3 rain last Monday.
It came just as everything was turning brown again.

I had a helper so I worked on Jet's feet.
Miss Chica appears to have a stone bruise.
She is very flat footed and has incredibly hard soles.

A lovely lunch with my friends and a ride tomorrow.
I hope all are safe and sound.
  • I would imagine Face is safe from the worst of the storm.  IIRC he is located well inland.  The Carolinas are much different than the sandbar that makes up most of Florida.

Well, I got a quote from the Vet on the work they want to do on Raven this month.  My answer was a flat NO.  I just don't have the money to be spending 900$ every few weeks.  So, I suppose that's the end for her.  Looks like she has Cushings and this will only get worse with each bout.  May as well put her down now where I can at least give her a decent burial.  She won't get that in Fawn Lodge.  Nonetheless, very discouraging.  I had hoped she would be a good companion for Socks.

Well, I'm slowly coming along with Socks compound here in Fawn Lodge.  I was able to repair a broken post and it really made my day to do so!  Got one post hole chipped out of the gravel and rock that passes for soil here.  Now I have four more... oh joy.  Then I get to start on his barn.  Well, for now, likely just a run-in shed.

Still messin' around with vintage trailers, cars, and trucks.  Fun... fun... fun.  When I have time anyway.  Hope everyone has a great week.

  • We survived the storm with minimal issues. 3..5 inches of very much needed rain which never really came down in downpours, so it had a chance to soak in. Lost power twice, once on Thursday and then again on Friday.  Friday outage lasted only 3.5 hours.

Apache hurt his hoof I think running around acting crazy on Thursday due to the winds. Happened in the bulb area. Couldn't see anything but found where he didn't like pressure put on it. Soaked it Sunday which he amazed us when we did it. He just stood in the water and didn't budge. Monday he was walking better and it had burst, soaked it again. Yesterday much less sensitive to the pressure and kinda hard to find the wound area, just a small little crack. Hardly any hint at lameness.

  • Hello! You guys are still on here!  I don't know the context of these posts and sorry to appear out of nowhere. I was just remembering all the help I got on this forum and wanted to check in and say thank you.

Sorry to hear about the storms and having to put a horse down, hurt hoof. None of that seems fun. Especially with Cushing's over time, it does get worse, you do the best you can.

  • PS  if you have no clue who I am. I was living in the Philippines a long time ago and had very little access to well, anything horse related which is not the case nowadays as the country has changed a lot but yes. Ever so grateful for the info I got on here prior.

  • I remember you Cintillante!  We were rather concerned about you as I recall.  A typhoon, or volcano or something going on down there.  Glad to hear you're okay.  Glad to hear from you too!

  • Ah yes, typhoons do hit that region a lot. I moved to the US and it has been quite a ride. Pun intended haha.
