Is, it's almost Friday! I had a good week because I didn't have tons of kiddos to test or parent meetings or after school duty! Makes for a good week when the workload is manageable. I'm also feeling so much better My ribs are healing and other than some stabbing pain when I do things like scooting around in bed or getting in the car, I'm good.
Lola is now butt-high. Her knees are looking knobby too. I noticed she's got barring on her legs. She's such a pretty color now, can't wait to see what color she is when she's she's out.
At the horse rescue we volunteer at near us, 3 horses had to be euthanized in the last 2 weeks :(. Most of the horses she takes in are sanctuary horses so less than stellar health is a given but it is still a shock when it happened so quickly for so many. Virgil was a 31-year-old gelding and he went down last week and although he was perky and still eating and drinking he just could not get his hind legs to work anymore. Sunny was a Palomino quarter horse mare that came in at a 1 emaciation wise. Kelly and I went up to feed on Sunday because the lady who runs the rescue had the stomach flu and when we went to put Sunny back in her corral from the arena where she was turned out she wouldn't move. When we looked at her more closely we realized she was breathing hard and when I looked at her gums, her gums were purple and so was her tongue The vet said he was amazed she was still standing after he got there and examined her . He thinks it was a cardiac event of some sort and so we put her down. While we were feeding we noticed that one of the old retired ponies had left most of his dinner and was not moving toward his breakfast so we have the vet take a look at him and it looks like maybe a mild colic . He ended up at the vet hospital on Tuesday and that night he was also put down because he was not responding to any treatment and his white cell count was going up . Probably a stone for a perforation of some sort ☹️
Today I fed the horses all by myself for the first time in five weeks! The arena is still waiting for sand and there is one area where ground water is coming up so they are going to dig that section out and fill it with travel and DG before putting the sand over it . The weather is looking good for the next couple weeks so we should be able to go forward . This rain has been crazy! We sure need it but we are waterlogged.
Penny's leg is looking amazing She is feeling really good and it is kind of scary to take her out of her stall and put her in her corral . She becomes a snorting, rearing, lunging beast. I cannot handle her right now because I might get hurt and Gary does not have much experience in handling horses so it is dicey at best. When he was leaving for the other day I had alfalfa in her face to distract her!
All of your planting sounds wonderful DH! I have been trying to figure out how I'm going to do my garden with our fencing the way it is right now . Everything is still temporary. Gary wants to get some aerial pictures to plan our fencing design. We are planning a 20 to 30 foot drive around the side and back of the property and then horse paddocks coming out from the stalls and pasture and we are putting fencing around the arena so we can turn horses out in there too.
I hope your remodeling is going OK and your back hangs in there, Stude.
Our weather is not quite as crazy as yours Connie, but it was 35 this morning and got up into the 70s .
Well, time to heat up leftovers for dinner as Gary is on a motorcycle trip.
