  • my horses have been boarded for almost 4 years now and now i have my own land to put them on (yeah)they have been getting straight sweet feed and have had no problems, but i know it makes them sweat more and they are a little plump but not exercised as much as they should be due to problems at the boarding facilities should i keep them on what they are on or whine them over to something else. I do live in georgia and it gets over 100 here. They won't have shelter for a couple months due to all the money i spent on fencing now i have to save some money for stalls.
  • Not a feed answer but mine are out 24/7 with a run-in.  They do great!  Plus they move around all day and they have a great herd thing going.  I'd hate to put mine in stalls.  I got stall mats and need to set up a stall for doctoring or keeping clean before an event....  But it's been over 4 years without one!
I feed Moorman's Ultra....um....carp.  Something pellets....  Not Ultra Strong, the other one but pellets.  AND BOSS.  Just tiny bits.  And free choice hay.
  • mine are pasture all the time too,i have to build them a shelter for when it rains,i was just asking about sweet feed
  • o-kay.....  I used to feed sweet feed but went to a low NSC feed.  I'm sure you know just make the change gradual if you do decide to switch.  There are some threads on this topic.... Peggy Sue is the feed Nazi.  She's not on much.
  •   It's not a bad idea to leave their diet the same while they're settling in to their new home.  Change it in 2 weeks if it's not what you want to be feeding.  I lived in Atlanta 20 years ago and would stop the grain during the heat of the summer for some of the same reasons.  There are alot better options out there now than before.  I'd look at products like Safe choice or Purina's Nature's Essentials.  Something that gives them a concentrated vit/mineral supplement without the heat production and flatness.
  • The question is, "If you build it, will they use it?"

  • I keep my mare outside during the day and stalled at night she seems to realy injoy her stall at night.......I used to feed a sweet feed to my mare but even when she was in the pasture she would sweat and when i rode her she was a bascket case so i changed feeds i now use X factore it a  Advanced technology extruded horse feed with low starch and carbohydrates it makes her calmer when i ride and gives her the extra needed supplemnts in her feed its also cooked so its safer for her in the long run.
