horse losing hair

• coltsmom Posted : 3/1/2013 5:04:04 PM Our 6 yr. old appy gelding is losing hair on the tips of both ears. Noticed today he is also starting to lose the hair on the front of the ears. Anyone know what could be causing this? Also since it is still cold in Indiana, do I need to worry about frostbite and what can I do for him? Our horses are outside during the day and kept barn at night. No other horses in paddock with him. He has gotten wet several day in the past 2 weeks from snow, could this be rain rot? • hunterseat Posted : 3/6/2013 9:41:38 PM I had one that would lose one line of hair on the underside of his mane. Made it lay down perfectly! Probably a fungal something. I'd stick some dandruff shampoo on it and leave it about 20 min, then wash off.
