  • I was always under the impression that all shots were done annually.  But my new vet says some are annual, but West Nile and Rhino are done every 6 months.  Is this common?  Not that I don't trust my vet, but I've just never hears of this schedule.  Thanks for your response.
  • Here if we give West Nile early in the spring you need a fall booster.   If given in end of April you are usually ok for the year especially with an early frost.

Depends on where you are located I guess.
  • Here in CA we give the 6-way annually and we have the West Nile every 6 mos or annually but apparently you are supposed to continue with whatever you first gave which for us was the 6 mo. type so..... we continue on.
  •   All core vaccines offer protection for a full year except for West Nile and rhino.  West Nile is good for about 4 months and rhino is only good for about 2.  If your mosquito season lasts more than 4 months, it is recommended to booster later in the summer.  The new West Nile vaccine, PreNile(?) offers protection for a full year.  If you travel, show extensively or board in a training barn where horses come and go, it's best to give rhino at 2-3 month intervals.
